Oikonomia is a serious game developed in collaboration with the Dutch tax office. The goal of the game is to raise awareness and educate children (primarily middle schoolers) about the purpose of taxes.
In the game the player takes on the role of president of the fictional country "Oikonomia". As the president, the player is able to regulate tax pressure and has full control over how the tax income is spend, with all the consequences that it entails. With its interactive learning environment, Oikonomia aims to give children a better idea of the implications that taxes have on our everyday lives.

Oikonomia was made by a team of two programmers, three designers, and three artists. I led the team and took the role of lead designer upon me. As the team lead I handled all contact with the Dutch tax office. The game is currently being used in Dutch schools to educate children about taxes and Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
