Desolation is a single-player horror level that I created using Valve's Source Engine. The level acts as a vertical slice and proof-of-concept for a single-player horror game that I designed. The game's goal, as suggested by its title, is letting the player experience complete desolation and all the horror that comes with it.
The images below show how the level evolved from its early concept stages to its final form. Just as I do with all my other work, I took the level through multiple iterations before it arrived at its final form. The level contains a number of setpieces such as the trains shown in the trailer above.
The level and trailer were created as part of the International Game Architecture and Design Bachelor programme in the Netherlands.
